Introduction

Culture is incredibly important for the success, cohesion, and development of any organization. As the central aspect to the human relationships and interactions that make up every organization, managers and leaders must find a way to support a flourishing organizational culture.  As every organization consists of human relationships and interactions, culture is a central aspect that must be managed and supported (CIPD, 2021). A healthy workplace culture provides employees opportunities to understand their organizations, to share their opinions and views, and to build community and trust.

Cass Business School, now Bayes Business School, wanted to organically enhance its culture. They also wanted staff to learn how to manage difficult conversations.

Purpose
Creating "listening spaces"

Bayes sought to host regular groups called “Listening Spaces” in order to support its culture. Topics covered in training included: psychological safety, managing difficult conversations, and driving positive change.

We would not have been able to realise the aims of the listening spaces without Arieli & Company, and we are grateful they were willing to work with us to shape the initiative and provide their expertise to our organisation.

Solution

Developing cultural leaders

We first identified key capabilities staff at Bayes needed to support desired culture change processes. We then provided group trainings in the core coaching and facilitation capabilities introduced above. Staff members also received one-to-one supervision and coaching to further develop their leadership within the Listening Spaces.

Future

An internal team mobilized to facilitate positive change

Two waves of Listening Space leaders successfully completed their respective trainings. Bayes Business School is now equipped with staff that have the capabilities to organically enhance internal culture.
